Christopher McKenzie, PT, SCS, ATC, CSCS; John DeWitt, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC; and Matt Briggs, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS; were certified as clinical specialist in Sports Physical Therapy, and George Dyriw, PT, DPT, OCS was certified as clinical specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) in July, 2007. McKenzie, DeWitt, and Briggs are one of 640 physical therapists board certified in Sports physical therapy and Dyriw, becomes one of 4448 physical therapists board certified in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy in the United States.
The ABPTS of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), awards certificates to physical therapists meeting approved requirements. To obtain certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialty area, and successfully complete a rigorous written examination, which demonstrates specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapy practice.
The OSU Sports Medicine Center employs more certified clinical specialists in either Sports or Orthopaedic physical therapy than any other clinic in the state of Ohio and serves as the only ABPTS accredited Sports Physical Therapy Residency in the state and one of only 9 such programs in the country. The Center is also in the process of developing an Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency with projected accreditation in early 2008.
