Education for Professionals > Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program
"Resident-to-resident mentoring facilitates a smooth transition into the post-professional program and really provides valuable insight from someone who has already gone through it", says George Dyriw PT, DPT, MA. |
OSU Sports Medicine, in conjunction with The OSU Division of Physical Therapy, is proud to announce its clinical residency program for physical therapists interested in pursuing a career in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. This residency program offers paid residency options; there are no additional fees for the clinical courses associated with the program. The Residency Program has been accredited by American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). With this accreditation, the Orthopaedic Residency has become one of only 17 such accredited programs in the country and the only accredited Orthopaedic PT Residency in the state of Ohio.
The program is designed to prepare residents to take the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties examination in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. The program is 15 months in length beginning each year in September. With this unique design, experienced residents will be able to mentor new residents during one overlapping quarter. While slightly longer in length than many residency programs, it was designed for residents to take full advantage of the clinical, academic, and research experiences offered at The Ohio State University.
A typical week in the Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program includes: 6 hours of mentored practice, 24 hours of non-mentored practice, 6 hours of cadaveric and orthopaedic lab instruction, 3 hours of graduate course work, 4 hours of physician shadowing, and 6-8 hours of other didactic work including self-study. Residents will earn graduate credits that may be applied towards a graduate degree pending acceptance.
