Whether you are a runner, cyclist, swimmer, multi-sport athlete, or another type of endurance athlete, we have a group of physicians, athletic trainers, and physical therapists that specialize in you. Endurance athletes often train through injuries and expect some level of discomfort associated with their activities, and we also understand that you often fear being instructed to discontinue the sport in which you love. When evaluated early and appropriate measures are undertaken, many injuries that affect endurance athletes will not cause any time away from sports. Whether you are an elite, semi-competitive, or a recreational athlete our group will focus on getting you back to athletics quickly. Common injuries endurance athletes experience include the following: swimmers shoulder, hip pain in cyclists, runner’s knee, anterior knee pain, shin splints, stress fractures and plantar fascitis.
Our group is lead by Julie Bishop, MD and Melissa Converse, PT, ATC. Dr. Bishop is an orthopaedic surgeon as well as an enthusiastic runner and multi-sport athlete. Melissa Converse is an athletic trainer, physical therapist, and a competitive runner. Whether participating, covering events, or treating patients at the OSU Sports Medicine Center, we are all passionate about our sports.
We look forward to helping you by: preventing injuries, helping you recover quickly when injuries occur and offering training advice when needed. We provide surgical, non-surgical and rehabilitation services including orthotic fitting and training.
